You never know when a spark of style inspiration will hit. Sometimes you can’t help but catch a flash at someone’s flamboyant socks or be drawn to a stranger’s luxurious jumper when you’re out and about.

But when you’re unwinding at the end of a long day trying to decide what to watch on Netflix with a Deliveroo on its way, the last thing you expect to find are some serious fashion icons (not least because you’re probably in your joggers by this point).

While most men on screen don’t get the same stand out costumes as their female counterparts, the designers on these programmes certainly know how to please our discerning fashion and TV critic’s eye.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

Based on Douglas Adams’ book of the same title, this fast-paced take on the classic detective story features slapdash sleuth Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) – a surprising sartorial muse.

Dirk’s enviable and seemingly endless collection of colourful leather jackets perfectly set off his shirt and range of ties for a quirky edge that makes the combo instantly less formal. While his reluctant assistant Todd’s (Elijah Wood) casual shirts make the ideal foundation for a relaxed summer wardrobe.

Suits Cast

Suits

Though not a recent addition to Netflix, we believe the legal drama Suits is in need of a rewatch after seeing Ms. Meghan Markle recently take on a very different role from paralegal Rachel Zane by becoming the new Duchess of Sussex.

We’re also watching to admire commanding lawyer Harvey Specter’s (Gabriel Macht) collection of, well, suits. A leading figure of dapper fictional characters along with the likes of Mad Men’s advertising giant Don Draper, channelling Specter’s impeccable wide-lapelled tailoring and powerful Windsor knot ties boosts your weekday gear to make you feel like the winner you are.

Black Lightning

Black Lightning

Previously retired vigilante Black Lightning (Cress Williams) is back in DC comics’ part family drama/part social commentary, all with a generous smattering of meta-human badassery.

By day, BL’s alter ego Jefferson Pierce is a respected high school principal and beacon of wisdom in his stylishly tonal three pieces, only to transform into the electric superhero with his lightning bolt-emblazoned armour. Either way, he knows how to rock a suit in any form.

Queer Eye

Netflix’s reboot of the 2000s reality makeover show more than delivers on some serious wardrobe ammunition. With each of the “Fab Five” taking over a specific area of the unsuspecting case’s life, it’s not only the resident fashion expert Tan France (bottom left) who is schooling us in style.

From key tips on building an outfit such as layering and combining colours, to how to properly spritz cologne, it’s an essential education in men’s style. And keep a special lookout for food and wine guru Antoni’s (top left) statement check suit for a reference on how to nail summer tailoring.
