Plain or striped – what’s your shirt style?

Play it safe or go bold and bright?

Play it safe or go bold and bright?

Chances are that you already at least a couple of plain shirts in blue and white – after all, they’re the safe and reliable shirt colours that are easy to wear and guaranteed to go with almost anything. But it’s always good to have a couple of patterned shirts on your shirt rail too and that’s where a good striped shirt comes in.

In our opinion a classic fine stripe shirt in summer time is pretty hard to beat.

Stripes have never really ever gone out of fashion and they are back in force everywhere again this summer. A good stripe is the perfect choice for the man who wants to go bolder than the traditional plain shirt without making too brash a style statement. For them we’d recommend a classic fine stripe in a light shade of blue.
Shades of pink, purple and yellow always deliver too, if you are partial to a splash of pastel.

For those wishing to make a bolder style statement, opt for a bright cobalt blue or green stripe or stick with blue, simply increasing the width of your stripe. Pinstripe suits are another great way to introduce the stripy trend into your wardrobe.

Wear your pinstripe with a plain shirt and contrasting striped tie, remembering that when pairing two prints together, the secret is to make sure you keep everything balanced and in proportion: If you’re wearing thinner stripes on the bottom, opt for a larger optical print on top.
