When it comes to creating fashion trends, new and unique patterns and prints are equally as essential as developments in fabric and silhouette. 2015 has already seen the return of geometric prints and bold, tropical florals, and this season, working its way from the catwalk via the high street into the discerning girl’s wardrobe, is the smudge print. This key design is a mélange of watercolour and digitally smudged florals, which swirl and combine to create a dreamy, hazy effect – almost like a blurred photograph. Read for our tips on how to smudge up your look this season.
How to wear it…
- With confidence. This print is not a ditsy floral, nor a safe check. It makes itself known and therefore deserves to be worn with pride, rather than apologetically beneath a cardigan or jacket. It’s also a great print to wear if you’re feeling less than fabulous about a certain body part, as it draws the eye.
- With care. Yes you want to let this trend speak, but not to shout ‘I got dressed in the dark. Pair this piece carefully depending on your mood. Simple fabrics will allow it to shine. For an edgy and bold look wear a blurred floral with a piece in a clashing print. Avoid two blurred pieces however, or you could look as if you got caught in a downpour
- With minimal jewelry. Bling should be left in the jewelry box on this occasion. There’s plenty going on here, so stick to the bare minimum, an elegant watch and studs in your ears will ensure you don’t look bare. Footwear and handbags should be accessories should be kept minimal.
- With colour in mind. If you don’t immediately find a smudge print which suits, don’t give up. The colour palette will be key. Find a mix of bolder or muted shades to suit your skin tone and hair.
